Tag – You're It... StencilGirl® Collaborative

Hello friends! Remember the good old days of Yahoo groups and swapping art through the mail. Well it seems that though the platforms have changed, creating and trading artsy mail with creative friends is still widely popular.

Today I am participating in a special collaborative project hosted by Tina Walker where she challenged 14 artists to some mail art fun.

Each creative was to apply a base of StencilGirl® Stencils to No. 5 tags and send two painted tags via snail mail to each player. The challenge: make a Tag Book using the tags received.

I cut my tags down to size from larger #8 tags which left me small pieces that I included for fun. Base Layer: Liquitex White Gesso pounced with sponge through StencilGirl® Stencils S288 Matus deMeng. Top Layer: Sprayed through StencilGirl® Stencils S532 Borloz with Art Anthology ‘Wild Orchid’ Colorations Spray. This made the face appear like magic.

This was a really fun collab challenge. I waited until I was ready to make my project to open all the envy's and spread out all the contents.

The color and design of each painted tag were so beautiful and unique, the best thing to do was to showcase them by making a mini star book to hold inspirational quotes.

First I edged all the tags with

Tarnished Brass Ranger Distress Paint.

Then I cut, tore and folded all the pages

and pieces to be stitched into the signatures.

 

Each signature is stitched layered with a base stenciled tag, 

torn map, printed vellum and a piece of fabric.

After stitching, each signature is glued back to back forming star base.

For the outer cover I selected Sara Branson's tags made from an old file folder and acrylic paints with StencilGirl® Stencils S682 Walker and S262 Dube.

"Out of this World Star Book"

This tiny book is out of this world! Full of layers, texture and pattern made from a base tag layer of joined stitched signatures, with scraps of map paper, vellum, and fabric scraps; followed by two floating layers of tags nested above... all tied up with sari ribbon.

On this quote page the tag base had L607 Soulful Scribbles - Let Go (Bautista). I added Ranger Distress Paint Tarnished Brass through S576 Art Deco Peacock Feathers (Lafleur). The other elements were chosen from the extra tidbits and goodies sent from the collab players.

It was a challenge to tie all of these tags together into a completed book and I'm so in love with this tiny tag book!!

SoFL Snow Day... BOOTS in April!!

Hello friends! April 2: Its a special occurrance that lasts for only 36 to 48 hours... the RARE SOUTH FLORIDA SNOW DAY! This is when the folks who live in SoFL get a brief respit from the sweltering heat and can break out wintery wear {a.k.a. sweater weather attire for everyone else north of the FL/GA line}. Any talk from weather forecasters this late in the winter/spring season teasing us with a COLD FRONT is mostly ignored. Most of the cold stuff doesn't usually make it this far south - we only see a brief couple days where the humidity doesn't punch you in the face when you walk outside to get the morning paper.

Today is a day when I miss my Chili-red MINI convertible most. It's only going to make it to the mid 70s today and I'm running about the house getting ready for work chanting, "BOOTS... BOOTS...  BOOTS!!!" This may be my last chance to wear them until I go back to Chicago. I've got my brown knee-high flats paired with my cute blue shirt dress and some multicolored leggins. Artsy and comfortable! I walked outdoors and was greeted by the birds singing to this glorious blue sky.

Later on a work, there were these puffy clouds scattered about. I can't resist snapping pix of clouds with my phone. Wish I would have captured the stunning sky ablaze with rust and orange at sunset with the silhouette of the everglades brush beneath a yellow glowing sphere. I was driving. It was a beautiful sunset worth noting.

Brown Paper Packages Tied up with String...

Hello friends! It's been a while. I don't know how long and my heart is heavy with what we have all collectively endured. I have been blessed to have been working all this time, but that work has been altered and more time consuming. Arting hasn't felt right, though I have taken many virtual gallery tours & talks and workshops... keeping the muse fed with interesting fodder and challenged with morning pages.

So its a new month... I've lost all track of time and space or routine. I have cooked a lot of banana bread. The last batch I added mini dark chocolate morsels in with the shredded coconut. YUMMO!

On top of everything else a mythical mysterious critter has taken up residence in my walls and ceiling – it has boundless energy – is illusive and has eaten his way through the plumbing creating quite a costly mess to be repaired. It's well past my bedtime and while I await my phone backing up and updating I exercised... YES... at night. I feel a bit calmer.

Before I call it a day I am dusting off my blog. Written in this little handmade brown package is an intention I am sending out into the universe! It's no secret but I wanted to make it artsy... I will post to my blog everyday for the month of April.
