Cooking in Grandma's Kitchen
with Unscripted Sketches #130

Did you see my "STEAMPUNK" post yesterday? It was fun to play with a different genre than what I am usually doing, and I got to rummage around all my crafty junk and play!

So here is my regulary scheduled {one day late} Sketch it Saturday with Unscripted Sketches post! Using sketch #130, I started with some BoBunny scraps out of the bottomless scrap bag. I really thought I would be using up this stuff faster than I am. I knew exactly what I was going to use when I saw this sketch...my Viva Las Vegastamp Blender #1571 stamp. I stamped it on white and then again on blue cardstock. I cut them out and paper pieced it back together, in a retro color style. Then I colored in accents to give it dimensions with my Marvy markers and water brush. I really like the effect of the water brush opposed to the blender pen. I layered it onto a BoBunny square patterned paper, then double matted circles placed on top of a paper doily. This came out so beautifully - just like in Grandma's kitchen.

Have you seen the leaf and pumpkin shaped paper doilies at the Dollar Tree? I haven't figured out what to use those for yet.

Here's this weeks sketch so you can play along...

LR's Crafty Steampunk Bloghop

I am sharing two things I have created. Let me start off with saying, I have never created anything in the "Steampunk" style previously and it was a fun challenge. Both pieces are made from stuff in my crafty stash and standard beading bits and pieces. The first piece is a pin and the second is a bracelet. I was a little inspired last night by the new show project accessory. I had planned the pin so I can make another cast with Amazing Mold Puddy and Amazing Casting Resin, but the bracelet was inspired by the show. The wings are hammered chipboard that I embossed with gold embossing powder, then added depth in color with alcohol inks and acrylic paint. The sheild of the pin is a silver pin that I resin casted, then colored with alcohol inks and acrylic paints. I finished it off with suspending some beads, pearls and an old key and also some adhesive gems for a little bling.

For the bracelet, I came across this section of four embroidered segments, and I ran with it. I stitched on some jewel parts and some pearls and an interesting button in the center. The smaller pearls encircling the center button are adhesive backed pearls. I had tons more stuff to add on, but I decided to keep it simple because the embroidery was so pretty. I can probably add a bit of chain to wear it as a choker.

Thanks for visiting. Want to win some blog CANDY? I will be giving away some steampunk crafty goodies including a resin cast of the sheild used in my pin. Please leave a comment to be entered in the drawing. Enjoy the rest of the bloghop and have a great weekend! Sb

Merry Christmas in October?
Unscripted Sketches #128 Reveal

Welcome to the weekend and Sketch it Saturday with Unscripted Sketches! This week's creation uses sketch #128 and a piggyback challenge to use fabric.

I know this is fall and Halloween is just around the corner - but the method of my madness has dragged me off to the Christmas village. That one touch rule strikes again! A bag of Christmas stuff was on top of the Halloween - so it was this weeks challenge supply bag. This is made using some leftovers from Christmas in July projects and this came together really quick {since I wasn't tying any bows}. The lighter green paper is BoBunny and the sentiment and package stickers are Sandy Lion. The only thing that wasn't in the bag was the fabric eyelet and red plaid ribbon to fulfill the piggyback challenge this week. Are you playing along? Here's this weeks sketch...

There's a couple indie craft shows on Sunday...so I'll be having some R&R visiting and catching up with some of my super crafty friends. Please save these dates: in addition to my weekly Unscripted Sketches posts - I will be featured on the Viva Las Vegastamps blog on October 31 and on the Amazing Mold Putty blog on October 22nd. Have a great weekend!!!

Rest Your Bones! Diggin' up this cute card
using Unscripted Sketches #127

Terrific Tuesday!!! The weather is finally back to "Sunny South Florida" standards and is beautiful and a little cooler. With all of the rain over the weekend...I had time to rest my weary bones since I have been burning the candle at both ends.

So with Halloween just around the corner, I am in spooky crafting mode. And this card used Unscripted Sketches sketch #127 and features the Viva Las Vegastamps "Skeleton Dancing" #7778 using the emboss resist technique. The background began as a section of a painted book page, painted over with a mixture of white gesso, glending medium and a touch of pastel green. With a whitish background to start with, I then stamped with clear versamark ink & embossed with VLVS Ultra High Gloss Clear embossing powder. I finished by blending in various distress inks with a makeup sponge (the background was so much darker when I started, but the gesso I mixed in with the acrylic paint & blending medium really lightened things up). I inked the top hat and cane with a permanent black marker and finished off with pearl Dew Drops and some glitter stickers. This is one of my favorite stamps and Mr. Dancin' Bones just makes me giggle.

Now that we have some slightly cooler weather {only around 90}, it's actually starting to get below 80 at night...this is fall in south Florida. Keep a lookout for some upcoming posts in addition to Unscripted Sketches - I am now on the Viva Las Vegastamps and now Amazing Mold Putty Design Teams, too. Have a great week!!!

Spooky Take Out Box for Halloween Goodies

OK - here is the whole shebang. My super cute Spooky Take-out box made using the Sizzix Mini Take Out Box die and "Glitter Ghost Camo" Halloween paper and Dew Drops from "The Robin's Nest". The paper is soooo cute. The box has mini skulls for feet, faux barbed wire wrapped around a brass wire handle, a few glass beads and a little bling with orange Dew Drops. This little box came together very quickly with my new best friend...Miracle Tape!!! It's ease of use and versatility make this my must-have adhesive - not to mention it is quite easy to remove the backing {which is a real pet peeve when it comes to adhesives}.
Here's a couple detail photos to get a closer look...the "Boo" accent was a button that I clipped the shank off of, and the orange gems are Dew Drops. The vellum round metal rimmed tag is stamped using VLVS Cat, Bat & Pumpkins #2886 Stamp and hand-colored with markers.

I finished off the feet with some fuzzy fiber to cover up the hot glue that was showing & it just adds to the spook factor!

I would also to like to invite you to play along with the VLVS Theme Challenge for October. Submit your "Halloween" theme creations using Viva Las Vegastamps for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate at the VLVS online store. CLICK HERE for info on submissions. Take some time to browse around the Viva Las Vegastamps store - there is something for EVERY occasion and theme...and even some that will make you laugh out loud... AND you can get some Miracle Tape there, too.

Thanks for visiting! Check back tomorrow to see what I've made for Sketch it Saturday's with Unscripted Sketches.

Re"vamp"ed Restaurant Take-Out Bag
Uncripted Sketches #126

Happy Monday everyone! This weekend was a whirlwind with extra projects for my new design team post and a fabulous craft show, too...so I'm posting today. This started out as a paper tote from this Italian restaurant, "Maggiano's", which was the perfect palette to create on using Unscripted Sketches Sketch it Saturday's sketch #126. So now it is a perfect bag for collecting some "tricks and treats"!

I had an idea to use a pumpkin instead of a circle and I found this great vintage pumpkin clip over at "The Graphics Fairy" that was perfect to fit the sketch and cover up the text on the bag. To ground the pumpkin, I layered some colored tissue paper. On top of the pumpkin are some clips from T!m Holtz grungy holiday paper stack. I added a lot of color and pencil to sharpen up the letters so they stand out more. The number "31" has some small sticker letters added to it and mini black brads on the corners. I topped it off with a plastic spider and an orange & black gingham wired bow with some green toole I found while looking for the ribbon...remember I'm trying to stick with my NEW ONE TOUCH RULE...if I touch it, it's in the project!

Hope you have a great week. Take a moment to check out my first post for the new Viva Las VegaStamps Design Team from Oct. 1st and the creations coming up from my super talented team members, too. There was a new project posted today, a spooky lighted lantern out of recycled cartons.
