ABOUT ME

I'm a mixed media artist and graphic designer : passionate about photography, oil/acrylic painting, assemblage, collage and whatever strikes my fancy. I started my creative journey really young – for as long as I can remember I enjoyed making things and this is still true today.

I'm a native of Chicago, Illinois and have lived in Florida most of my life. I currently reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with my husband of 26 years. I'm quite lucky to have been born with creative genes. Both my mother and father are artisans of their own sort. My grandmother taught me to paint in oils when I was 14 and my grandfather introduced me to photography by gifting me one of his cameras.

I'm a painter at heart, who is always learning new things – I consider myself a “technique junkie”.
During the daylight hours... I am a graphic artist working in the fast-paced world of digital communications. I spend my days working doing my computer wizardry producing printed materials and digital content for social media. My blog {sbartist : painting in the dark} was born because I frequently lurk around in the dark creating art while most in the world are asleep. I never know what will I dream up next... my muse seems to be always exploring!

Creatively speaking... I’m the Creative Team Coordinator and Senior Designer for Amazing Crafting Products Creative Team {a.k.a. Amazing Mold Putty} and a member of the Designer Crafts Connection collective. I previously served on the Viva Las VegaStamps!, Sakura Hobby Craft and Altered Pages Design Teams; as Designer and Den Mother for Anything But a Card Challenges Blog; and Designer and Co-Admin of the Unscripted Sketches Design Team.

My style is varied and unique – altered and edgy… using materials in new and unexpected ways. Mixed-media fuses all of my interests; whether I’m paper-crafting and stamping, altered arts or collage, intertwining photography or sewing, or using a bit of everything. Each project is it's own amazing entity. Paper scraps and other crafty leftovers always get utilized. I especially love greencrafting and repurposing items destined for the bin into something beautiful, useful and new again.

I am a believer that the creative process is an evolution and a product of lifelong learning. I love to teach and share my knowledge with others – as each one of us is exploring our own creative journey. I truly enjoy the creative process and experimenting - to discover all the uses a product may have, in or outside the box… "embracing the unexpected.” I look forward to inspiring you with my thoughtful, yet abstracted twist on creating.
