You can't Pinch Me... My #Cre8time is Gold and Green

Hello friends and Happy St. Patrick's Day! Lucky for me I married into an Irish Clan so I have a free pass on this green pinching game. This month the Designer Crafts Connection was challenged to work with the new oly*fun™ Metallic Fabric... only one word can describe this new fabricWOW!!! CLICK HERE to hop on over to the Designer Crafts Connection blog and be inspired by all the shimmer and shine!

Today I'm using the new gold Oly*fun™ to make a fun ribbon rosette for St. Patrick's Day that will give some flair to my fun Irish themed embellishments and buttons from the dollar store.

Oly*fun™ – the EVERYTHING material now shimmers, sparkles and shines in Gold, Silver, Rose Gold and Red. So easy to cut and does not fray {hemming is not required}. It's perfect for crafts, costumes, accessories, home décor and more. Oly*fun™ metallics are available in 10 yard bolts, 30" wide. You can find it at your local craft/fabric stores, order online, or jump on over HERE to win one bolt in the metallic color of your choice!

I've had these pins from the dollar store for ages and I've only ever worn one... so I thought why not jazz them up and make them ribbon rosettes. The metallic
oly*fun™ is the perfect compliment to the shine and dimension of the buttons.

I probably could have skipped mounting the fabric to cardstock and just mounted the fabric back-to-back. But since I was adding a heavy pinback button, I thought it was a good idea to make it a bit stiffer.

I took a scrap of 6" x 9" green cardstock and mounted it to a slightly oversized cut of gold oly*fun™ using double-sided adhesive sheets. It's easy to cut with scissors and I trimmed back the edges with my guillotine cutter.

Following instructions for rosettes over at Scor-Pal® {tutorial here}, I scored both sides of the paper fabric to create peaks and valleys at 1/2" increments.

Quick and easy! Then I divided this into three 2" sections. Since I was winging the size, I hoped it will be large enough to frame my largest button which is about 3" across. Then the fun begins folding back and forth to make the accordions.

With some double sided tape, I joined the three sections together into one long accordion while my hot glue gun was warming up. It takes about 4 hands to hold a rosette down to secure, but I managed. I applied hot glue slightly around the edge and placed one of my faux gold coins on top... this did the trick on the first try! I repeated on the back and I was ready to finish up. I fashioned the ribbon tail out of another section backed with cardstock, a smaller section popped up on chipboard. Now how to finish??! I could add  ribbon or words, but I think I'm just going to keep going with the green and gold shamrocks.

After gluing a pinback onto the back of the rosette, I layered on a few foamy glitter shamrocks and three shamrock stickers on the tail to finish it off. I just love the shimmer and shine of the oly*fun™ metallic and it's quite reflective.

I can see myself using this A LOT for cardmaking and other crafting projects needing that POP of bling... and making pinned rosettes for every holiday occasion!!

Award Winning Shamrock!

What's more "MANLY" than Cowboys and BACON? Unruly Paper Arts August Readers Art Quest

Hello Everyone... where is August going??! Well it's time for some more inspiration for the current Reader's Art Quest at Unruly Paper Arts. This month's challenge theme is "MANLY". What's more manly than cowboys and bacon?!! For this month's inspiration I created a fun card using some scraps of handmade painted papers paired with a fun stamped cowboy image and quote.

http://www.unrulypaperarts.com/2015/08/august-2015-reader-art-quest.html

The Unruly Paper Arts Reader's Art Quest "MANLY" Inspiration photo and color palette, are a little dusty and perhaps a little grungy, with a POP of color.

I began with a 5" x 7" cardstock base to which I glued a painted papertowel {resulting from mopping up spray mists from faux leathering paper}, layered with a scrap of corrugated painted with Faber-Castell Gelatos {leftover from this seasonal art}. I layered the stamps ""Keep Calm and Put Bacon On"" and Cowboy with Lasso, from Viva Las VegaStamps! on cream cardstock, each double matted on recycled brown envelope, brown cardstock and a torn edge.

I hope you enjoyed my project and that you are inspired to join us in this month's Reader's Art Quest. I would love to see what you create. Please leave me a comment with your link.  :) Sb

Join us for a #Cre8time CELBRATION with Anything But a Card Challenges No. 50

Today begins a brand new and final challenge at Anything But a Card Challenges... Challenge No. 50. And we are having a Cre8time "CELEBRATION" won't you join us! Since we are having a party... how about some cake? A pretty pink paper cake.

The FINAL Challenge... in the spirit of our time together stretching and growing our creative muscles – we invite you to join us in a Cre8time CELEBRATION!

I am about greencrafting and this paper cake is no exception. I know it's Pink... it happened to be the ruling color by my paper scraps and recycled colored tissue paper... and a wink to my super creative teamie "Sheri" {a.k.a. super pink girl}. This is one occasion that I can live without all things "PURPLE".

The center of this cake is recycled ribbon spools collaged with paper and tissue, then stamped with inky goodness and topped with luscious ribbon trims for the icing. Helmar adhesives made this project quick and easy... my cake came together lickety-split.

The base of the cake is finished off with
a hand-stamped doily detail, too!

This party is underway... now I'm off to find some ice cream. I hope you join us in the CELEBRATION at Anything But a Card Challenges!!!  :) Sb

Stirring Up Some #Cre8time Fun... making Altered Paint Sticks

What do creative friends do in their free time... daydream and think up fun swaps to have with each other. After the rousing success and enjoyment of the altered pinewood derby car challenge, my amazing creative friend Tina Walker decided it was time for another Cre8time challenge - this time a mail swap. Swap three for three. I created four so I could keep one for myself.

The OBJECT d'Arte would be Paint Sticks. You know we all have them, wood, utilitarian a reason to go to the hardware store LOL!

Washi... washi... washi - who else has hoards of this and can't get enough. On any given outing to a store with craft-like items, I seem to end up with more stashed in my purse. I have all of my tapes {that are not holiday themed} all organized by color in a metal tin with a clear window top {CLICK HERE to see more}. So how does one alter a recycled paint stir stick??! Any way possible! Well, my choice was to create a rainbow of washi and showcase a really great quote... plus use some measuring tape washi so that in a pinch, this inspiration stick can be used for measuring too.

I wrapped the washi tape one strip and and color at a time around the stick - creating a colorful rainbow. When completely covered I burnished it down really good with a bone folder and lined across the length with a the measuring tape overlapped with a sparkly rainbow stripe. I punched the quote into my K and Co. Label maker {always loads of squeaky fun} and stapled the ends with my Tiny Attacher. Before I put the mini staples in, I smashed my label tape with it and got some really cool negative staple marks. On the backside, I reinforced and really tacked down the washi tapes with some seriously sticky aluminum tape.

+ + + Now the SWAP Players + + +

A whole group of artsy craftsy pals have joined in the fun { Tina WalkerBrianna Marshall, DeeDee CatronMelissa JohnsonMichele KosciolekSara Vukson, and me}.

Tina Walker! Here's a sneak peek. CLICK HERE to jump over to Tina's Blog to start at the beginning of our little hop. Here's some close-ups of my sticks.

Papercrafting and #Cre8time Art Play with ADORNit®

Welcome to my stop on the ADORNit® Art Play Bloghop! You should have arrived here from Anita's blog "The Flamingo Chronicles". If you have arrived here first and want to get back to the start of the hop, please CLICK HERE to jump to the ADORNit® Blog.

The new line of Art Play Paintables from ADORNit® are so fun and fabulously illustrated by Lindsay Ostrom... ready to color and play with your entire mixed media toy chest! I have created an altered embroidery hoop wall hanging with one of the 6" x 6" pieces on the Art Play Paintables - Life's Journey {which has 4 images included on a 12" x 12" sheet}.

I began by adding color using a waterbrush and Ranger Distress Markers. The paper of the Art Play Paintables is a thick cardstock with a watercolor paper texture - which is a nice base for paint and layering of colors in a watercoloring technique.

I built up my layers of color with a variety of colors to bring out accents and details, then traced off the sun, top of tree and heart onto deli paper to make templates to cut cardstock for paper-piecing from the ADORNit® Blender Basics Paper Pack. I love the contrast of hand-coloring with patterned papers.

I filled in the layers of grass with torn sections of two different greens from the ADORNit® Blender Basics Paper Pack – and I used both sides of each for the layers. The paper pack has three double-sided 12" x 12" sheets of every color in the rainbow.

Next I used a glue stick to mount all the patterned paper sections and adhered a recycled section of an embroidery hoop {which happens to be missing it's outer ring}. I punched two small holes in the top using my Crop-a-dile before gluing down with Diamond Glaze.

While the hoop and adhesive dried under a heavy book, I prepared a phrase for my wall hanging. I selected "collect moments... not things from one of the twelve inspiration cards on the Art Play Paintables – Ladybugs 12" x 12" sheet.

Your clue is: the letter " T "

Before I mounted the green patterned paper, I cut away and fussy cut the floral spray at the bottom of the original illustration. I hand-colored this and the phrase in the same fashion as the rest. I adhered the phrase using 3D dots and glued the floral spray to the edge of the hoop with Diamond Glaze. I trimmed away the excess paper flush to edge of hoop, topped with a hanger and bow using Offray Ribbons and my wall hanging is ready to adorn the wall in my studio.

The finishing touch is a little shimmery bling with my Sakura of America Gelly Stardust Hologram pen... adds that kiss of sparkle and compliments the sheer shimmery bow!

Thanks for visiting! I hope you are inspired to PLAY with the new ADORNit® products.

Orange and Black Breed Fun and Festive Halloween Treats with Anything But a Card Challenges No. 28

Happy Sunday! Today begins the THIRD and final week of Anything But a Card Challenges #28 "Orange and Black" Color Challenge. To see more fabulous work from my fellow design team members today over at ABAC, CLICK HERE.

Being part of the ABAC is quite fun and we have planned the challenges quite far in advance. I love creating Halloween projects and I have been patiently waiting to share these projects for this "orange and black" challenge... and they are full of Halloween goodness. So I am sharing two projects with you today. One has a how-to, and due to the length, the other has a link to jump over to another how-to. ENJOY!!!

Inspired by my orange and black stash of crêpe paper, I made a fun treat holder with handmade fringe, distress stained acetate, and a handmade acetate prize ribbon... with my Miracle Tape, assembly is quick and easy!

Also - I've made my own crêpe paper fringe with Miracle Tape! It's super easy and adds just the right amount of seasonal color and festive texture. First I layered an orange section of crepe paper {about 3 feet long}; then ran a stripe of 1/4" Miracle Tape down the center for the entire length. Then I repeated with black; then tape and repeated 4 more times alternating colors until I had six layers.

I added a stripe of Miracle Tape to the back of the first layer; then pressed everything flat to get good adhesion in the layers and folded the whole thing in half. The final stem is trimming small cuts at about 1/4" intervals to make the fringe.

I waited until after I adhered it to my piece to fluff it out.

Now for painting the acetate. I spread some Peeled Paint and Seedless Grape Ranger Distress Stains onto a craft sheet and rolled over with my brayer. This will make a nice drippy background.

I dragged the acetate through the puddles of distress stain, rolled a little with my brayer and repeated until I got the effect I desired. This particular acetate I'm using takes ink very well because it is recycled film from my imagesetter at work {please test inks on your inkjet or overhead projector acetate before trying with your final project}. I let it sit and dry for about a 1/2 an hour and while I waited, I mopped up the rest of this inky goodness with some blank tags and cardstock for use later. Before forming my cone, I stamped the creepy tree with Staz-On Black ink and accented the eerie eyes in the bat, pumpkin and stump with Sakura of America Souffle® 3-D Opaque yellow pen to make them glow.

I added strips of Miracle Tape to the length along the bottom edge and also along the short edge where the seam will meet. I formed it into a cylinder shape, exposed the tape and sealed my tube. This is a good time to secure with a couple staples for good measure.

Now a bit about the ribbon rosette... if you are going to attempt this in acetate - you need a hot glue gun and several hands {though I managed to do it with just two}. I reserved a section of stained acetate that was mainly purple and cut three strips using my Fiskars deckle edge scissors. I stamped the winner stamp on a scrap of green/purple stained cardstock and punched out with a tag punch. I gave it a shimmery touch with my Sakura of America Gelly Roll® Stardust® Glitter Pen. The Stardust is my most used of all pens - it's sheer and gives a twinkle to everything.

Two of the strips I accented with ribbon for the tails. The third section I scored at 1/4" intervals on my Scor-Pal® and accordion folded. Now for the tricky part. Form the accordion into a loop and secure the ends together with Miracle Tape, then lay it flat and form it into a circle. I had another punched tag ready with Miracle Tape to secure the back, but it popped off as soon as I let go. So I put loads of hot glue in the center and sandwiched the top stamped tag on top to hold it tight. I put a glass on top to keep it flat until the glue completely cooled {about 10 minutes}. When cooled I added a small dab to hold the tails on and it's all complete.

I added the fringe and fluffed it pretty; punched holes and laced some coordinating ribbon and filled my cone with candy corn - topped off with some green and purple paper fringe that makes the Prize Ribbon "POP".

This prize is ready to be awarded... or I've earned my sweet reward - LOL!

Now for my second project - a spooky fringed mini accordion book complete with a shaker box... the perfect home for all the fun seasonal confetti we crafters hoard for projects {c'mon... admit it - you can't resist all those fun festive confettis - I know I can't}.

This accordion mini book is full of inked and stamped goodness and is ready and waiting to house this year's Halloween photos. Please CLICK HERE to see the full-how to of how I created this book.

I hope you are inspired to play along with the "Orange and Black" challenge - you have a full week left to create! Thanks for dropping by to visit. Today I have my monthly art club and it's the last day I will have to tool around in my convertible MINI Cooper {crossing my fingers the weather stays nice}. Have a great Sunday!!! Sb
