Happy Saturday - Sketch 104 with an Asian flair...

This is my creation for Sketch it Saturday's sketch #104 over at Unscripted Sketches. This week I was rummaging through the clearance pile at the craft store and I was finding all these minimal jewelry pieces - BUT - I didn't buy any for this {though I admit, It was my intention to get a little bling to use for this particular sketch}. So I went home and started looking through one of my many scrap bins and I picked up this scrap of Asian paper.

I picked it up and I said to myself "where did that come from?" I don't know but it is now part of my latest throw-away collage. With this paper I was off and running...and I wanted Chinese food, even though it was well after 10pm. So I rounded up a microscope slide, an Asian medallion, a scrap of corrugated {one of my favorite goodies to create with} and some handmade paper.

This piece of handmade paper was already half black and white, but there were some things embedded in the white, so I tore it away and replaced it with this very "SPECIAL" piece of textured white packing material that I have been saving for a very special project. THIS ONE!!!!

I'm posting this collage over at my SMBdesign shop on Etsy. So if you would like to get it click here.

REVEAL!!! Unscripted Sketches #103

"Here fishy...fishy...fishy..." That is what my Dad told me and my sister to say to lure the fish to our bamboo fishing poles...and I finally caught him here.

This is my creation for Sketch it Saturday's sketch #103 over at Unscripted Sketches. I'm having such a great time on this Design Team. My thought process for what I'm going to create is somewhat unconventional. I like to grab a handful of stuff and just make something with it. So I start flipping through my stash, and for this project I didn't have to look far. I came across this stamp I recently purchased, since it hadn't been filed in my binders, and I was off and running to the scrap paper stashes. I have lots and lots of small paper leftover from other projects and they come in handy to make cards.

The stamp is from Imaginisce, the dark blue wave pattern is Basic Grey. For the waves I used my fiskars wave border punch and punched out from some scraps leftover from a tropical flip flop book project [the light blue with orange stripe had been put through the corrugating tool]. To be honest it was my first time using this punch and now I'll have to find a use for all these reverse two inch wave pieces leftover. Hmmm it is earth week....

I finished it off with a quote I found in one of my hundreds of dollar stamp sets and a FISHY brad - isn't it soooo cute. I planned to use a flower brad, but my hand painted googlie-eyed friend needed a sidekick!

Behind the quote is a piece of blue glittery tool...my secret of where do you find that... at the DOLLAR TREE {my NO SO secret guilty pleasure}. They have these little girl fairy skirts and I bought them in all colors of the rainbow with the total intention of cutting them up for crafty stuff - and - most of them are a little glittery, too!

Unscripted Sketches #102

Here is my creation for Unscripted Sketches sketch #102 with piggyback challenge of using something recycled/repurposed.

I love doing throw away collages - collecting up leftover stuff from other projects and create something new. The base of this is a 6" square star book made of chipboard scraps and white paper that I made as a prototype before I cut up my pretty patterned papers.

The burlap & sparkly floral mesh were scraps from an altered book project and stamped images leftover from a stamping class project I was teaching. I gave the base of the cover a whitewash with some acrylic paint in a dauber bottle. I finished this off with some real freshwater pearl beads. Hope everyone likes it. Summer has arrived way too soon here and I have been daydreaming of my peaceful Sunday AM last weekend at the beach with my sister.

You Make My Heart Flutter -
Unscripted Sketches #101

Hi everyone - here's my first official creation for the Unscripted Sketches Design Team Sketch #101. YES - a scrapbook page [my local crafty pals are having a good laugh right now]. I don't usually make scrapbook pages, I'm more of a dimensional cards & altered arts maniac. Although I've been teaching scrapbooking & papercrafting techniques for years - I came across this paper while rummaging around for stuff to work with - and since I had a new cute photo a family member took of me and my DH [while I was teasing everyone on FB about my big news - thanks to all who played to build up suspense] - it was a perfect match for this project.

Every Saturday morning we post a sketch for the week. Flip the sketch, rotate it… create a card, a scrapbook page, a wall hanging, digital, paper, fabric, paint, anything your imagination comes up with! There is no right or wrong way, as long as you are using the Unscripted sketch as the inspiration for your creation! Everyone is invited to play along and post your creations with inlinkz. You could be selected as featured top three in next weeks post!

Hope you like this. The top photo is from last Saturday, my husband's cousin caught a shot of us on her cell phone camera. It's not often that someone gets a photo of just the two of us. The lower photo is from our very first official date, just over 20 years ago. Time sure has flown, but we are still so in love. The three accent pix are from various memorable events: top is from our first 5 star all access Def Leppard concert in WPB; middle from Dan's parents 50th Anniversary party; bottom from a Labor Day trip to Tampa at Ybor City.

My variation of the sketch is flipped upside down & mirrored. The background paper is by SandyLion and has the words already printed on it. I just outlined "You make my heart flutter" with blue marker, and accented with jelly roll white and hologram sparkle pens for a little pop. I made all the photos black and white to unite them. The three small images are punched out and placed in actual recycled bottlecaps. The background bandana paper is a printed digital-image left over from an altered book project - I distressed the edges to make look fringey. I matted the photos on vellum and distressed and sanded the edges of the vellum and the photos. The corner accents are metal corners by American Crafts.

Have a great week everyone! I'm off to the "Odd Duck Bazaar" in Davie to volunteer at the make & take booth with the Hollywood Craft Mafia for the afternoon. My sister & her girls are coming and my DH got us a hotel in Hollywood Beach to have a sleepover since the weather is so nice. See you next week!
