#Cre8time Snow Days ... Designer Crafts Connection Kunin Felt Blog Hop

Happy Thursday! Today I am part of a new Designer Crafts Connection Bloghop featuring Kunin Felt... get ready to feel all warm and fuzzy! 

I was sent a wonderful wintery assortment of gorgeous Kunin Felt in 9" x 12" craft cuts of Classic felt one 12" x 18" craft cut of Premium felt. and also two pom-pom trims from Expo International. It's still summertime where I live in South Florida, but creating with felt always brings me back to fond memories of making all kinds of ornaments and other goodies with felt when I was growing up in Chicago. 

I really love using Kunin felts and fabrics! The products are made in the U.S.A. and they are eco-friendly. I am I'm all about using "GREEN" products and Kunin Felt are Eco-fi® 100% polyester fiber, made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles. 

My project today is a wintery felted holder for my smart phone. I am constantly taking my phone out and many outfits {especially wintery ones} don't have pockets, so a snowy winter case will be perfect!

I began by measuring and cutting out a couple rectangles to size a bit larger than my smartphone; and also several strips of white and the 12"x18" grey for coordinating strap.

I love that I can cut the felt using my guillotine cutter! 

Then I cut some knotches away for the corners and also a half circle at the top of one side - this accent will help ease of removing my smartphone.

I used felt glue to start assembling the strap and the base of the phone holder. The Beacon Felt Glue tacks up quickly, and dries clear.

I glued all my strap sections together and set aside to dry.

I planned for this to be a free-form "NO-SEW" project. As I was assembling, I realized I needed something a little stronger than the felt glue, so I switched to using hot-glue for assembly.

I followed along the the long edge of one rectangle applying a bit of hot glue, then pressing the pom-pom trim into place. This took the most time and I'm happy with the results.

When I got around the bottom edge, the overlapped felt had a gap where I could glue in the edging of the pom-pom trim. 

After securing bottom edge trim, I continued gluing trim around the other side.

With the trim adhered around three sides and the base, I folded over the top and followed back around with hot glue to close up the sides. Now the holder is complete.

I wanted to add some stitching, but I didn't necessarily want to hand stitch the entire strap I have fashioned. So I got out the sewing machine and quickly zig-zag stitched through the center several times to add interest and texture.

I really like the two-tone strap with peeks of white amongst the grey felt. I love the rustic feel of my wonky zig-zag stitching too.

I hot glued the the strap to the completed case; one strap to the front and the other to the back. This will balance the weight of my smartphone and also lay flat when worn.

My phone tote is cute, durable with a little touch of bling! The pom-pom trim gives it a girly feel, but also adds a little padding around the edges. 

I finished off the front with a couple gems and a hand-cut wonky snowflake using the white felt adhered with Beacon felt glue.

Lunch Notes with #Cre8time LOVE...

Hello everyone. I'm back to share a little project using the Wet-Erase Chalkboard Signs that are handy, yet so much fun!

The Deflecto Wet-Erase Sign is perfect for adding a sign in a snap! These cute Black signs mounted to a Mahogany easel come in a three pack measuring 5 7/8" x 9 1/2" x 5 1/4".

In a previous post I created this fun Mexican themed sign using the assorted color pack of Deflecto Wet-Erase Markers for a fun taco night we had around the Thanksgiving holiday. I had fun decorating this and I love the border I created. I would like to use this on a daily basis as a menu note board for my husband for the meals I prepare and leave for him. I have to cook on a daily basis now for health reasons and he is really reaping the benefits and bragging about his "gourmet cook" at home - LOL!

I'm going to keep the border here, so using a small paintbrush and water, I apply water and gently rub to remove the chalk ink in the center of this board.

 I blot away the excess water and repeat until most ink is cleared.

Using a paper towel, I mop up the remaining and gently dry the center, careful to not wipe away my border. This is really pretty simple and didn't take more than a few minutes.

The Deflecto Wet-Erase Markers clean up quick and easy with a wet paper towel and water, then followed with a dry cloth - and they leave no ghosting. The ink is opaque and bright and does not require multiple coats - that's a timesaver. **A Little TIP** These markers write on plexi, glass and anything with a durable non-porous surface so you can decorate pretty much anything! I love using these on the Deflecto Craft Plexi frames.

The center of my blackboard is clear for re-decorating with my border in tack. There was a little smudge here and there which was easily touched up. All I have to do is create a new message for today!

I placed the sign right where with the water and drinks - a place that is sure to be seen. My husband really gets a kick out of my new daily routine of home cooking... and I have a little creative fun, too!

#Cre8time Organization that's to DIE for...

Hello Everyone! It's a new week and I'm focusing on getting my crafty stash organized... today I'm focusing on my fun collection of thin metal dies. I am a die-hard club member of The Stamps of Life and I get a fun new collection of stamps with dies each month. Until now I have them all in a box in the mail packaging they come in - but I can't see them and have no clue what is in each. I have a solution combining two products from Deflecto Craft and a few staples from my crafty stash.

I'm using two Deflecto Craft products to create this FUNctional tabletop die storage... and it's a quick and easy transformation.

The sleek and modern Deflecto Document Browser® has six clear dividers on a black base which move effortlessly to browse files. I knew straightaway that this would be a great way to store my ever-growing collection of thin metal dies. I need them to be out where I can see them and organized in a fun way. This document browser system is perfect for this... the best part is that I can use both sides of each divider as my collection grows.

The Deflecto Craft Magnetic Sheets come in a package of three 8" x 15" sheets, with a white backing. These white magnetic sheets can be painted or papered, embellished or customized to any project. Thin enough to cuts easily with scissors, craft knives and die cuts... even emboss. I will be using the magnetic side {black side} up for sticking items to the storage system.

First I use a sheet of deli paper to trace a cutting pattern to fit each panel. I measure and cut six sections to size and trace pattern with pencil on the white side of magnet sheets. Now for a little fun! I could have skipped this step - but I wanted add a little texture and flair to my storage... and I think this will aid in pulling off the dies. So I picked an embossing folder with a gradiant dot pattern and embossed each magnetic section with my Cuttlebug. Honestly, I grabbed the first folder that was within reach {I have about 200} and didn't want to fuss with trying to choose.

I had to run each sheet through twice to complete pattern all the way across. I repeated for all five sheets.

I made sure that embossing would be raised on the black magnetic side. Now it's just so fun, right??!

Now for the most technical part of the transformation - cutting and gluing. I went to my stash and grabbed some double sided adhesive sheets for this job. Makes things quick and easy. I cut to size of rectangles and adhered to white side of each panel. The adhesive sheets are translucent enough to see my pattern line. I cut each to shape and did a test fit to make any trim adjustments if needed. I peeled off the backing and mounted to the Document Browser®. Voila!!

I have all six panels nearly filled and room to grow on the backside!

#Cre8time brings Superpowers... Steampunk Magneto Bangle

Hello Everyone! Today I have a new upcycled tape spool project to share... and this one is not only FUNctional - but it's totally Steampunk, too!

I'm forever squirreling away empty tape spools to use for crafty projects, and my Cre8time led me to my latest, and possibly greatest bangle. Made of a few stash items and magnetic craft sheets... this came together in a snap and it's not only fashionable, it's MAGNETIC. 

No more tiny metal brads or pins all over

the place - they will now stay put.

This was quick and easy to make. I cut a section out of the tape spool and rounded the edges, then covered the entire thing with sections of aluminum tape. I burnished everything down real good with a bone folder then set off embellishing. I cut a section of magnetic sheet to fit and ran through a Cuttlebug diamondplate embossing folder {yes - I squealed with joy}. I wrapped around metal tape bangle and tacked down with some double-sided tape. 

Using my Crop-a-Dile I punched some holes, set eyelets and affixed some gears and swirly paperclips with screw brads. I covered up the exposed brad wings on the inside with more aluminum tape to secure and to finish it off.

I'm ready to create... with my new magneto superpowers!!!
